Encoded Frequencies is the solo project of Paul Whalley, a musician from the Northwest of England. Born from the unique sonic landscape of 1980s/90s Skelmersdale, Whalley's music channels the polarizing energy of his formative years into something universally resonant .
The impact has been immediate and impressive. BBC Introducing selected "Bad Movie" as Song of the Week on BBC Lancashire. While live shows have captivated audiences with his immersive sonic landscapes drawing comparisons to alternative mavericks such as Sonic Youth, Radiohead and Pavement.
His debut album "Initialised," arrived in June 2025, recorded with long-time collaborator Mark Wainwright (Alien Sound Studios), with mastering by Mark Gardener of legendary shoegaze pioneers Ride at OX4 Studios.
